Summer is here, and while we may not be jet-setting to exotic locations, that doesn't mean we can't create unforgettable memories right at home. Staycations are a fantastic way to bond with your kids, explore your local area, and enjoy the simple pleasures of summer without the stress of travel. Speaking of which, let me share a fun story from our own family staycation that turned out to be one of our favorite summer memories.
One summer, we decided to have a backyard camping adventure. We set up our tent, rolled out our sleeping bags, and spent the evening roasting marshmallows over a small fire pit. My son, who usually struggles with change due to his autism, was initially hesitant but soon found comfort in the familiar surroundings of our backyard. As the night went on, we shared stories and laughter under the twinkling stars. The highlight for my daughter was setting up our projector outside with a white bed sheet and watching a movie under the stars...an experience she still talks about! It was a simple, yet magical night that brought us closer together and reminded us that the best memories are often made right at home.
